A good example

I checked the gamelog on CNN-SI for the situation Bill R. describes on another thread here. OK went for 2 with 6:10 remaining in the game. (In case you're asleep, they failed to convert and trailed by 9.)
1) They kick off onside and fail to recover.
2) Missouri immediately gets hit for 15-yard penalty. Then they mill around for a few plays and go for a 4th and 1 at the opponent 45 (successfully). Then MO burns some more clock and punt with 4th and 2 at the opponent 35. (Downed at the 7.)
3) OK takes over (on their own 7) with no timeouts left, quickly throw three incomplete passes, and then with 2:24 on the clock... punt.
I guess they figured losing by only 9 would give them a better chance of making a big bowl game later in the season?
