We are talking about undefined, not uncalculable equity. The problem with your P=11/86*E derivation is that in order to conclude that P is defined in this way, you have to assume that P is defined in your first equation P = 11/36 * E - 2 * 25/36 * P. If it isn't, it's simply meaningless to formulate the equation. Look here to find a statement of UBK about this which is slightly more verbose than his last one in this subthread.
Also, the number of backgammon positions is not finite, if the cube value is not capped.
