Rich: Cube value is not part of the position state in money play. Only cube position. Equity of cube on 16 in some position is simply 16 times equity of same position with cube on 1. No need to consider it a distinct position state.
This is true for normalized equity, but for calculation purposes the non normalized equity must be used. Normalize equity is just a display gimmick for user convenience.
I do agree with Tim that without capping the cube, BG is not solvable mathematically. But with capped cube I think it is (Tim, Bob or any math wiz can you confirm that?)
btw, XG has a built in 1024 cube cap (for display purposes rather than backgammon reason).
