This looks like a position where it's important to ask "what is opp's gameplan?" Veronica has the better board and two nice anchors. She should want to go forward by making more good homeboard points and hitting+trapping Betty's blots.

What is Betty's gameplan? Take advantage of the race lead, make more homeside points (for landing spots), get the back checkers around, and finally (maybe most important): hinder opp's gameplan.

So, hitting looks like it takes away a good builder+hitter from Veronica's arsenal. Then 14/8 gets one around to safety. It would be nice to use that checker to build a good landing spot, but four blots (when outboarded) looks too dangerous, and in order to be a useful outside builder that checker needs reinforcements which aren't so numerous/readily available.

Bottom line is that, for my eye, the relative board strengths drives this decision.
