Anna, I'd be happy not to use the term if you think it is insulting. I don't think anyone here used it with an intent to insult, or with any stereotype in mind, but from your post here it is clear what your preference is, and there is no reason not to follow that. I also thought that Paul was pointing to an issue that did not exist, but I was wrong there.

Just to clarify - I am aware about the tough and unfortunate history of Poland (some of it, not all). When I was mentioning expressions coined for historical reasons, I was referring to the expressions with 'Dutch' in it (I am Dutch). These came about (or so I was told when in high school) because of the fights and rivalry between the Netherlands and England. In any case, for Dutch people, no problem in using these expressions with 'Dutch' in it.
