POLISH PRIME

Sofar, we have two competing explanations for the genesis of "Polish prime".

1) Some far-fetched ethnic joke, referring either to Polish people being dumb or to the Polish people having suffered outrages during WWII.

2) A straightforward reference to the game of narde, which happens to be played in Poland, and in which making a prime with blots is a strong strategy since in that game the blots can't be hit, so that they block as well as points.

I can't say that I know the correct answer, but explanation 2 seems immensely more likely. Why you are favouring explanation 1 is beyond my comprehension.

Or might it be that Polish prime is a derogatory reference to the stereotype of Polish people being heavy drinkers, so that when they look at a blot they are seing double and seeing a point instead ? ;-)
