With 20-20 hindsight, 8/5 gives you two more shakes to point on the head of one of his blots, plus if he dances you have an 11/36 chance to send back another checker. At 2-away Crawford, you're at gammon-go, so the more gammonish plays would be favored.

On the risk side of the equation, the blot on the 15 faces only three shots, and I'm not sure it makes sense to hit the blot on the 12 with 1-5 or 2-5. Anyway, that's only seven hitting numbers.

All this said, I probably would've played 15/12 over the board.
