While I find all of these comments interesting and illuminating, one thing that has not been mentioned is that the Value of Gammons at 4away/4away with the cube at 1 is relatively high, .680, and that's a consideration....is it worth giving your opponent the power of the cube and recube vig to gain .3 in GV? In other words, it's not necessarily such a horrible thing to lose your market and play on for the gammon with the cube in the center.
