"....is it worth giving your opponent the power of the cube and recube vig to gain .3 in GV?"
The opponent has cube power whether it is centered or he owns it on two. Suppose he has turned the game and is now winning. Compare the cube power for the two situations:
Owning it at 2 he can cash at about 67% win chance. His gammon wins give him NO extra cube power beyond that.
With a centered cube the cash point for a race is higher (about 76% for a long race taking into account the opponent's recube power) but if there are gammons he can benefit greatly from them and this increases his cube power.
Which is the more important consideration of lower cash point for races or extra cube power from gammons will depend on the exact position but in general worrying too much about giving the opponent cube power is faulty here I think and will lead you to too often winning 2 points when you should have been winning doubled gammons for the match.
