I hear you Bob, so it seems to me that to truly get this decision right depends a lot on the volatility of the game and the potential for gammons both ways. You really have to look at the w/l and gammon odds separately and act accordingly (very much like you do at 2away/4away and other scores that are gammon-sensitive). Sounds like it is generally right to be more aggressive with the cube at 4a/4a when it's volatile and gammonish and not necessarily so, or certainly not as much, when that's not the case.
