I have seen OT posts gradually kill more than 1 other forum, noting I used to moderate some computer gaming forums at another site etc.

What happens over time is that people simply talk more and more about OT stuff and then starting losing the focus to talk about on topic stuff..ie BG in this case.

What happens when people talk about politic and have very different views is that sooner or later someone insults or verberally attacks someone else, and then a fight may start, resulting in others jumping in and ill feelings all around. The end result often is that a couple people don't come back or worse yet are told to leave. This can snowball and reduce on topic content and also cause people to rush over to a different on topic forum.

Also what is happening here is that sometimes we have to scroll down a page or two to find much of the BG content.
