Ruling Question

"Speaking to the above quote note that just because every checker was in the homeboard does not mean that a born off checker was legally born off."
That is correct. Having all checkers are in the homeboard is a necessary but not sufficient condition to bear off a checker. One must still obtain a roll of the dice that actually permit a checker to be legally borne off. If all checkers are in the homeboard - say all 15 of them are on the 6 point - and a player rolls a 52, misreads the dice and thinks he rolled a 51 and plays 6-off, then that checker was not legally borne off - it was illegally removed from play and he may still be gammoned. His opponent must decide whether to condone the illegal play or to require its legal correction. However, if the play is condoned, then from the point of view of winning the game (ignoring gammons), there is no practical difference as to whether the checker was borne off or illegally removed from play. The equity of the resulting positions are the same.
