What is Happening to Backgammon?

I mentioned people who don't play Chess so that their rating doesn't decline. The other side of the coin is that there are many players who make a point of playing once a year so that they are still on the active list. I have done that and I know quite a few others who have done that.

For example, Bill Calton is the highest rated active Chess player in Michigan. But, he will drop off of the list if he doesn't play a rated Chess event again by February. I don't know if Bill cares about this or not. But, many would.
