What is Happening to Backgammon?

It is what Tak Morioka said long ago. That is what is happening. Cube is good. Clock is good. Legal moves is good. Touch move is good. Rating is good. If I am to play a social game, why collar and tie? Aristocracy is good, but so is democracy. These high end tournaments are magnificent. But they are somewhat invitational all of them, aren't they? A real championship - regional or world would have a regional/world selection system and be played at regular invervals like world or national championships in many sports. Such systems give more chances to young people to advance. Of course there is only one place on top, but who cares. Some may drop, but the game is contagious!
