"New Ideas" and "Modern Backgammon" are at one sight the very same. Both are drawing generalized conclusions from a finite collection of specific observations. Woolsey and Heinrich very first showed the different thinking based on bot research, compared to master opinion. Robertie also used specific sets, but he wanted to show general principles especially in amorphous middle game positions, what makes the bot approach superior. I his examples, he generalizes not and has often the focus on the specific example. What Woolsey/Heinrich makes groundbraking like Vision laughs at counting, was to create a whole new universe in depth in every single position. They showed, that backgammon could be more, well worth to think about it. Robertie showed us, why the bot approach is uncircumventable. On the other side very different books, comparing apples with oranges, if you try.
