In Response To: Manouk Borzakian on how to determine the #1 player (Timothy Chow)

(Note that he said he's spent three years writing his dissertation. He didn't say he has been awarded the degree.)

He starts out by trying to distinguish "world's best player" from other accolades/titles. He then says that (men's) tennis ATP does it best. I looked at the ATP list and it does appear to have the best couple players (from what I"ve heard -- I don't follow tennis) at the top. Then I looked at the women's equivalent --

Women's Tennis Association (WTA) on Wikipedia with top five being: Wozniacki, Zvonareva, Clijsters, S. Williams, V. Williams

and also the women's Grand Slam event winners, with this year's four titles going to: S. Williams, Schiavone, S. Williams, Clijsters.

Finally I looked up the bio and accomplishments of WTA's current #1:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caroline_Wozniacki

in particular noting her Grand Slam performances this year: 4th round, quarter-finals, 4th round, finalist.

Not trying to pick a fight with you Danes :) but is she really currently the world's best tennis player?

Sidelight: sorry I couldn't successfully post the first two Wikipedia links. Usually cutting-and-pasting the URL works, but not when there is an apostrophe in the title.
