Why I Hate the Meyer Dice Tube

Bob, your first paragraph made a lot of sense. I wish you had stopped there, but you're not alone.
I certainly understand and 'weigh' peoples' feelings that the physical/etc. action of shaking and rolling from a cup adds to their enjoyment (and excitement of the game). Over-the-board backgammon is different than playing on a computer screen (either with a local or distant foe). If backgammon isn't enjoyable there is no reason to play.
Brett Meyer did a study of the randomness. I'm sure he'd do another IF that would convince people like you. Hell, I'd do one if I thought it would make much of a difference. I'm not of the opinion it would matter enough.
The reality is that the feel/comfort/satisfaction/etc. that comes from shaking and rolling is what the opponents of the Dice Tube want. Everything else is just a smokescreen.
