I'd agree with you if the seasoned player had just said, out of the blue, "you can double now if you like." But that's not what happened. The other player tried to double on the previous roll, obviously because the player suddenly remembered the cube but wasn't thinking that he might be TG. The seasoned player told him that it was illegal to double at that moment. When the first legal opportunity to double arose, the seasoned player then pointed it out. The seasoned player wasn't drawing attention to a cube that the novice had forgotten about (the novice remembered the cube just a moment ago), and the novice had already expressed the intention to double. Do you really think that the novice had carefully weighed the previous decision, decided that it was D/P and not TG, but would have carefully weighed the current position and then judged it to be TG if it hadn't been for the seasoned player's remark that it was legal to double? That strains credulity.
