My weakness is estimating % of winning and gammon chances.

This part is certainly normal.

Btw: I improved my checker play a lot but my cube actions still suck. Is this "normal" or does it show that something must be wrong with my way of studying?

That sounds like the wrong question to ask. The right question is the one in your subject line, namely how to improve your cube skills.

The first thing, as Chuck said, is to get reasonably good at money-game cube action. That will give you a foundation for match-play cubes.

Then work on your cube errors as you would any other aspect of your game: Collect errors, notice patterns, focus on one thing at a time.
