squaring the circle

As I understand the phrase, "squaring the circle" does not mean what you think it means in mathematics or as metaphor. In math it does not mean finding the approximate area of a circle, which is possible, but geometrically constructing a square with precisely the same area as a given circle, which is impossible. As metaphor it is not the worthy effort of searching for ever closer approximations to some truth, but the futility of efforts to find solutions to problems that have no solution.
With regard to Kye's tables, I agree that rounded numbers, as in the "step two" table, are quite accurate and might be easier to manipulate (90 instead of 89, yes; but 68 instead of 67, no). I'd also say that "step two" is good enough for more than just "most intermediate level players." But it seems to me that simply memorizing at one go a single "step three" table -- R-K or whatever -- entails less work than first learning and then unlearning "step one" and "step two," although, as Kye notes, once working with "step one" does become "second nature," further refinements shouldn't be at all difficult.
