Meyer Dice Tube VIDEO, Randomness & Cheating

Why is it that people (and the inventor) think that the more rods you add, the better "randomness" you achieve?
Adding rods is the same as lowering the die speed at impact with the tube floor (BTW: shouldn't it be called a cylinder?). I'd think that "most" of the "randomness" came from this impact being the high velocity.
If the rods are too many too close, then the dice will have a tendency to follow a sequence of twists and turns, and the possibility of mechanics trying to repeat any numbers by turning the tube in a certain way will arise.
Maybe a lipped tube (with a silicone ring halfway through the tube, to take care of slow-turners trying to slide the dice along the tube wall, for some reason) would be the optimal in both speed and randomness? Or some kind of hourglass shape?
I've never tried a tube, but I think the idea is good, and I think you should easily be able to produce outcomes that are considered random to a satisfactory degree.
My worst fear for this device, is if it's a "closed" (locked) device where you cannot fairly easy exchange the dice. Because then it's only a matter of time before you'll see the first tampered with dice tube, loaded with loaded dice! It would be the PERFECT setup for a cheat. So in my opinion, for the tubes to be used at bigger tournaments, the tubes should either be able to be opened, or be provided by the tournament committee.
