Time for a statistical study?

Backgammon players have become increasingly sensitive to statistical uncertainties, but we seem to have some gaping holes -- in Elo ratings and in bot-based error ratings.

The latter might take some custom coding with a bot (e.g. GNU-bg). The former could probably be done with a home-grown simulation.

Anyone out there with time on their hands over the holiday break wanting to tackle one of these?
