"stripping the midpoint"

I believe the preservation of spares on the midpoint for the sake of spares is controversial. It also may be hard to test.

You mention putting five checkers on the midpoint and then prefer bringing two down. But maybe that would be correct because five checkers on a point is too many -- i.e. they can be better diversified.
