Why use clocks?

I don't understand it either, Stanley. Clocks are vastly superior -- as Patrick Gibson said at his last LA tourney: "they don't make you play fast, they keep you from playing slowly".
Clocks solve what are, at times, considerable scheduling problems resulting from slow play. Clocks clean up the mechanics of the game by using a single pair of dice, thus eliminating disputed rolls and fast rolls.
Very few players will ever have a problem with time. Most of the less experienced players, who object the most vehemently, play quite quickly anyway -- they are only scared of the clock because of the fear of the unknown and the perception that a clock gives additional advantage to the stronger and/or more experienced player. The deliberate, studious player who may get into time trouble usually knows how to play with a clock, is comfortable playing with a clock, and can adjust his/her game accordingly if time becomes a problem.
For me, it is a no brainer. Certainly for Masters jackpot, Championship/Open level tournament, and doubles clocks should always be used.
