Why use clocks?

In Response To: Why use clocks? (Havard Raddum)

The Central States Invitational (Chicago tournament associated with Bill Davis) is "clocks on request" in the Grand Crystal Beaver and the Open Doubles (meaning only one player has to request) and in all other events, including the Championship Division, clocks may be used by mutual agreement.

Pittburgh Backgammon Championships is 'clocks required' in the Pittsburgh Masters, Championship, and Championship Doubles.

Santa Fe is 'clocks required' in the Masters, Championship, and Doubles.

Atlanta is 'clocks required' in the Masters and Doubles, 'clocks on request' in the Championship (apparently one player only has to request).

Las Vegas Super Jackpot is 'clocks preferred'. No other mention of clocks in the brochure.

Not sure of the status in other tourneys, I don't have all of this year's flyers yet.

So, in Pittsburgh, Santa Fe, and Atlanta and Open/Masters player may play without a clock. In Chicago and Las Vegas one may have a problem. Las Vegas is not as big a deal because it is a four-day tourney.
