Backgammon Lessons

Have you ever taken a backgammon lesson from a good teacher? If you have, and felt it was a waste of time and money, then your opinion that lessons are not worth it FOR YOU is quite valid. And that might be true. Not everyone learns the same way.
I have been taking lessons for over 25 years. I started taking lessons AFTER I had read several of the best books and some articles, and for me, the lessons were far better. I got a lot of helpful coaching from some of the best players in the world who happened to live in Chicago, but it wasn't until I started paying for formal lessons that I truly began to understand this game. My first teacher was Kit Woolsey, and he was fantastic. I also took lessons from Nack, Myerburg, and Joe Slyvester--and they all had much to add and all taught me things I never read, and some things I read they explained even better. In recent years I have been learning much from Perry Gartner, Stick, John O'Hagan, and David Rockwell.
Has it helped my game? Well, after 20 years of competing at the Chicago Bar Point Club and never finishing higher than No. 5, this year I finished No. 1. AND THE ONLY REASON is the lessons. So for me, it works. Books and articles are helpful to me, but it simply doesn't sink in for me. Maybe that's not true for you, but it was true for me. And it is true for dozens of people who have taken lessons from me and my partners at thebackgammonlearningcenter.com. In fact, you can go on our web site and read their names and locations, and some have even shared their XG progress chart showing how much their game improved in a very short period of time.
I will go one step further. Unless you are one of the best players in the world, I am willing to bet that in just one lesson from any of us (Perry, Stick, John, or myself) you will learn things you didn't know before that will help your game; you will improve on some things you thought you knew; and you will learn approaches to looking at things that are far superior to what you have been doing.
I have and am giving lessons to some players that play about as well as I do, and possibly even better, and they will tell you they have gotten their money's worth.
You don't know what you don't know. Until you've taken a lesson or two from a truly professional, well-organized teacher, you can't imagine how much it can improve your game.
