This clearly works against those of us who like to stall as long as possible and drag out plays as much as possible in order to irritate our opponents and cause them to become upset and lose concentration.

Clocks do not eliminate, but simply redefine the notion of "as long as possible". Many people do not realize with a clock how long it is still possible to drag things out and how much it is still possible to irritate one's opponent. The rest of the people have been fortunate to play UBK on a clock and do not suffer from this misconception.
