Always get dinged ... how often are you getting into this kind of position!? When you have a dead spare like you do here teetering on a point that can only be used for one good thing it's best to do that one thing when you get the opportunity. I wouldn't cover with a 3 of course, permanently killing that dilly builder, but with an ace here I definitely cover.

Covering gives you a clean 3pt board. You don't need or want recirculation in this position. When you generally want to recirculate is when you have some sort of a prime in place and you're trying to get your opponent to cough up more checkers. Here it isn't likely you'll ever have your opponent primed because you have so many checkers already so deep in your inner board. Your best to winning and losing fewer gammons is to play 2/1. I think the bot is 100% correct here.
