Make the 1-point or not?

If your plan to win the game required you to pry loose another checker in order to get to a winning position, then leaving the blot on the ace to be recycled in order to collect another checker would be correct. As it stands, this isnt your game plan, you just need to make your homeboard, and hit and contain one checker. Key to containment is size of homeboard.
Now, if opponent was going to be down to 5 checkers left before you get a shot, then consider it closely, but he wont be, its going to be very soon, and very few checkers off. At this point, you have nothing to gain by trying to maximize your pips in the outfield, and the only things you can gain all involve opponent dancing on your homeboard.
In short, I agree that the bots are correct here. Just make it, but not with the 3! Use the semi dead checker to do what only it can do at little cost. I swear if the bot comes back and has some other creative play in mind, I may have to either:
1. Choke Xavier 2. Demand a bot that plays backgammon, not some bizarre non-ace-point-making-vague-resemblance-of-a-bot piece of software
