If the question here is whether you can expect stronger play from 7-ply or XGR+ on this OR ANY backgammon position, the answer is clearly 7-ply.
The reason we do rollouts is because it is computationally impractical to enumerate all possible continuations of a position to a sufficiently large depth. Rollouts then offer a statistical sampling of the possible variations that may arise from the current position, and the estimated average of the equities of the positions in that sample.
XGR+ is doing a truncated rollout (small statistical sample) of depth 6. 7-ply is doing a computationally exhaustive examination of all possible continuations to depth 7. XGR+ cannot ever, in any backgammon position, produce a more accurate result than 7-ply (other than by accident). 7-ply sees further and sees everything.
