Isn't it 36^(n-1) trials, truncated at (n-1)? Your description of the algorithm is not clear to me: On the one hand it makes it look as if 1-ply already includes a one ply lookahead, averaging 21 results - I thought 1-ply was just the "static" evaluation, like gnubg 0-ply. On the other hand, you write that e.g. 7-ply looks at 21^6 roll combinations, which is what I thought it does.
