I see opp's 2-2 as an issue to consider. Secondarily (not necessarily in order of importance) we'd like more shooters at his blot.

8/5, 14/13 caters to both of the above, but it also leaves the back checker somewhat awkwardly placed. Although it doesn't pay off immediately to 2-2, it does leave four blots to clean up if he does roll the joker. 18/15, 14/13 avoids 2-2 and gets the back checker moving. In either case 4-4 (the only roll that doesn't hit opp's blot after 8/5) shifts points -- 6/2*(2) and most likely wins a ton of gammons at near zero risk.

I'm reminded of a 35-year-old Magrielism: Don't concern yourself with a 1/36 shot unless there's nothing else to be concerned with.
