I think this is from BG for Profit (1975) where J. Dwek liked 6/3 24/22.

I also think it's covered in Classic BG Revisited where J. Bagai and Snowie 3.2 like 4/1 24/22.

Corrections welcomed if I'm wrong, because I don't have either book accessible at the moment.

In the root problem of this thread (to cover ace point or not with a 1) of course you cover. Variations where covering helps are far more numerous than those where you don't cover, get hit, and profitably recirculate. You'll usually have to win the old-fashioned way, by building your board, so start building now.

As late as 1983 (by which time I should have known better), I made the hopeless play of not covering in a thematically similar position in a big tournament, lost the match, studied afterwards, and never knowingly made the same mistake again.
