I believe that is a main reason. Note that 3/2 wins a tad fewer games, but more G's. These G's are likely coming from containing Black's spare longer on the ace pt, which in this position goes hand in hand with crashing somewhat.
The fact that 3/2 doesn't win more games but wins more G's makes me think that containing that spare is the main feature.
