maybe there's a method that's better for EVERYONE

Disclaimer: I tend to be one who feels that the best person to implement an idea is usually the one who creates it. Hopefully you won't hold me to that... This is certainly a "what if we had..." dream, but maybe it's not so far off. Summarizing some comments of others:
1) Directors+staff are busy.
2) Players are busy.
3) Lower level (Int, Novice) players' results are desirable.
At every tournament I've ever attended there are paper drawsheets on the wall with staff members (yep -- those already busy people) having to hand write results. Before the start these cumbersome sheets have to be filled in by hand (by -- you guessed it). I'd say 25% of the sheets have sticky labels posted over misktakes. Staff deal worn out ("marked") playing cards to determine the random pairings.
This is the computer age, and it's been that way since the 286 processor became affordable 25+ years ago. Why not have ALL the brackets online AND online only? Use projectors (they are already a lot cheaper, even less than $200 although those probably aren't bright enough for this application) to show the brackets locally on a screen or wall. Meanwhile, wifi is usually available for free in the playing rooms. (OK, when the projector isn't on, like late at night or "early" in the morning, printed brackets can be used -- don't have to be so big since how many people are going to be looking at them when the event isn't in progress?) BTW, I believe Bill Minser and crew at Madison already use computers to at least keep track of their Swiss pairings, so this idea isn't completely fresh.
Too expensive? Phil has a projector. I have a projector. Just like my two spare GTII clocks that I bring to every tournament and loan them to the staff, we can do that, also. (OK, Phil, I'm volunteering your equipment. But you had a post here, too. :) The hard part is writing the application. I know there are people here who can do that, but it still takes interest+time+effort. Thus this isn't YET the perfect solution.
