Howdy Adam,

I am actually glad you brought your questions up, and I'm quite happy to try to offer a generalized answer for what I have done over the years. It isn't always black and white.

First, I post all the matches I play. I don't play that much but when I do, no matter how bad I play I post them. It would be hypocritical of me not to, and I feel people deserve access the same information about me, that I may have about everyone else.

I have probably between 15-20 thousand matches. I'd say 98% of them have never been analyzed and posted to study ones mistakes and error rates. But I have used all the matches to work on dice studies I have done in the past.

I come from a group of people who over the years probably averaged an XG PR of between 10-14 .as the years go on, people improve and new people start playing so its just an estimate. But the average is not what you'll see if you compared it to players on Grid Gammon.

Most of the people I know already realize that they are not Expert/WC and they aren't as concerned about their high PR's and ER's as you might realize.

I started out analyzing my matches and posting only my matches back about 8 years ago. I was using GnuBG and people became interested in having their matches analyzed. Many people in the early days didn't want to spend 380USD on Snowie, and in the early says GnuBG was much more unfriendly. I would get people emailing me their matches, or if I happened to be watching and was asked by a player I would analyze it. It became convenient to post such matches to a website since anyone with a browser could read them.

Over the years I have watched countless matches, some with good players (by the standards of the site I am watching on) and have analyzed them and quietly posted. If the match is of any real interest I would post the link in a lobby of the site. If a WC player is playing someone who is advanced or better I almost always publish and try to be around.

Among Social players a PR of 18+ is bad and I don't post many of them unless it was someone who asked me to analyze it. On occasion the PRs have been so bad that I have jokingly told the person they don't want to know and give them their PR/ER, post the match temporarily and then remove it.

Only one person over the years has asked me not to publish certain matches because they felt a bit embarrassed (They are a very good player, just a bit self conscious, and their PRs average in the 7-8 range). In this type of case I do take it seriously, and try to accommodate.

I can only say that Intermediate/Advanced players may be less self conscious about their Error rates/PR's than one might realize. A WC player may not like people to know when they play a 10, but an intermediate/advanced player likely won't care because 10's probably fall in their range on a regular basis.

Neil Kaz and I met up and became acquainted - when he became curious about my knowledge of GnuBG after he saw me posting his matches. Not sure Neil Kaz and I would have become acquainted if it hadn't been for this! At the time GnuBG was the main bot, I had a fast multiprocessor system and many WC players would actually wait for me to publish the links to their matches in the lobby before they left.

Overall, what I have done over the years has been well received.
