I was not a witness to the Joanie Ross miracle - Frank Talbot was my source for that. The Paul Lamford story comes frm Chris Bray. My articles are archived at Gammon Village, one of which allowed me to claim an Erdos number, thus earning one for Walter along the way. :-) Indeed, it was Walter pointing out that I had taken Chris's 10-^39 on faith that inspired the followup article where I did the math myself and found that the odds of winning after entering the three men from th bar at around (going by memory) 10-^24.
