A couple of examples (sticking with the same roll of 42) off the top of my head are diagrammed above. In the left-hand position (41S-54S-42), making the 4pt is the standout play, covering the 9pt is second best and a near blunder. Hitting (typically executed by experts in such positions three or four decades ago in such positions) is a definite blunder.

As I recall, in the right-hand position (62S-54S-42), anchoring is best, making the 4pt second best, making the 11pt is third best (with 18/14 13/11) or fifth best (with 24/20 13/11), and making the 9pt is fourth best. Hitting is sixth best and a whopper.
