Since the file is (at present) stored on the file system, and the file system is independent - it would be very difficult in some cases to track especially if folders get renamed, files get moved or deleted from the file system directly. I guess one could keep a link to the last known location, and if need be check for the existence of that file. If the file no longer exists the previous link is not displayed.
