It's not just you

I have had this same problem with first games, and seen it in opponents, enough that I have a class of saved problems called First Game Jitters. As the name implies, I think of the issue as being nervousness and a bit of ragginess in getting mentally into the flow of the match smoothly and quickly.
A related issue: Back when GG permitted money play, I used to split up long money sessions I played into four, five, or six parts, then see where my error rates were best and worst. Almost invariably, Segment 2 was better than Segment One, by a statsig margin.
Segment 2 often but not always was also the best overall. This pattern didn't seem to carry over into match play for me. Possibly this was because I could pace myself better for a match, since it had a known endpoint. The money sessions sometimes also allowed for such pacing by having length parameters such as "we're playing till the 10 p.m. tournament starts", or "we're playing 14 more games". Other times, though, we just played till someone simply quit, gave a three-game notice or fell asleep on the keyboard.
(If you think I'm exaggerating about the latter, you're right--but one of my FIBS opponents actually did that once, in a non-money match. He came back the next day, apologized, and finished the match. I didn't bother trying to analyze that one!)
