Why isn't Backgammon growing?

Why isn't Backgammon growing? I think there is one reason that tops all others, even slow play. It is the animosity that seems to be a constant part of the game. It is the tirades thrown by angry players at tournaments. It is the conflict in chouettes. It is the petty fighting and feuding between players that pops up all around us. I am sick of it. The only reason I continue to tolerate it is that I have so much invested in the game. But I do have a limit. New players who witness this bullshit have a much lower tolerance for it. How often is this the real reason they don't come back?
