Backgammon needs people to step forward and start a club in their community. That's what I've done for Durham/Chapel Hill, North Carolina. We began with just two people in April of 2008. Slowly we've built up. It takes time and work.
My advice for starting a club can be found at http://home.roadrunner.com/~kenlarsen/bgclubstart.htm
