... I retain my strong opinion [...] that it is illegal to score in any manner other than normal..ie positive points starting from zero. I've actually called the director over when my opp has scored as points needed to win, rather then points accumulated.

Why, you may ask? Well..why should I have to do math or trust his when comparing scores? This director agreed with me and told said opp to also score "normally".

Wow. You called the director for this? I guess you discussed with your opponent first?

I think this might be based in differences on the rules for the event you played, compared to the rules we have in DBgF.

I mean you write the scores on your scoresheet, your opponent write his. Between games you announce the score and agree? How your opponent has done his notes doesn't really matter. IF a dispute occurs, then (according to the Danish rules), your opponent will be in an unfavourable position, has he not scored the match in the proper way. It wouldn't affect you negatively. Same goes if he doesn't score, and just says "leave your note block visible to me, then I'm satisfied". In case of a dispute, the player not scoring will be at a disadvantage. We have the same kind of wording in the general paragraphs noting that any player not following the rules properly and playing in the gentleman spirit of the game, will be at a disadvantage in case of any disputes.

You could maybe argue, that scoring and announcing points as AWAY, will eliminate the dispute scenarios where one player writes "match to 11, 0-0", and the other player writes "match to 13, 0-0" when setting up. After game 1, the players say 1-0 and concurs. Or they say -11,-10 / -13,-12 and corrects the error right away.

:-)

You could also argue that scoring in away points is a "help", because it makes the player more aware of the AtS situation, and save him from calculating away scores over the board. If that's the real reason then it's a straight forward equity decision you're entitled to according to the rules - though petty for a GIANT player.

---

If the rules you play differs from the ones I'm used to in DBgF, and you feel you could end up in a difficult situation later in the match it's a different thing, of course.
