Interesting idea for club events.

Would it work to simply allow the human to advance, whether or not s/he won the match? Since the match is for ratings points (and club W/L points, for those clubs which give some points for winning a match), hopefully the human would still have incentive to win and therefore take the match seriously. But at the same time you aren't knocked out of the tournament by an uber-WC player who doesn't even belong to your club.
