Definitely a situation worth contemplating, IMO. If we were behind in the race then grabbing the 18-point anchor (with the intention of keeping it) would be a n.b. Even 24/18, 13/11 would be a candidate under those circumstances. Here we are well ahead in the race and simply want to convert that into a bearoff.

We are going to want the 5-point. We don't want the 7-point. We may be able to use the 8-point to our advantage but that point is a double-edged-sword against opp's 23-point anchor. New builders are good.

18/10 does a lot, especially towards the race. The downside (and it could be big) is that we isolate our back checker.

How about 24/16? This pays off quite a bit to the plethora of hitting numbers, but our 4::1 homeboard advantage compensates for many of those. Still, four total blots could lead to trouble.

I can't convince myself that this position is the exception to the "keep your back checkers linked -- don't isolate your last checker" sentiment. We'll see. I suspect I'm joining the assembling herd. :)

24/18, 11/9.
