In Response To: NOT close (Sam Pottle)

About 7 or 8 years ago the Bears (err, da Bears) went for a last play of the game pass when they could have tried of 53 yard field goal (for the win). The weather was not good so it's a bit hard to figure the FG success chances. For good weather it was a 24% GWC error. Thus it wasn't that bad, but still very bad. After the game, the head coach (not Lovie Dovie, but a previous one -- Jauron?) made some excuse about "confusion" on the field. And, as typical, he said it was out of his kicker's range (but that didn't seem to be the kicker's opinion).

Just a few short weeks ago (detailed on this page -- someone can search) in the playoff game between IND and NYJ, the Colts attempted a FG when (if I recall) they faced a 4th and 7 from the Jets 16. This was late in the game (can't remember if it was 6 minutes or 4 minutes to go) and they trailed by more than 3, so they weren't getting the lead even when the kick was successful. That was a 19% GWC error. That's the largest I remember except for the above mentioned Bears decision.

Seems like the typical worst calls of the regular season, back when we were analyzing all critical calls, was around 16% GWC error. 11% GWC error would likely make the top 20 for a typical (regular) season, and even have a decent chance of making the top 10.
