Yeah, I read some write-up that you play/used to play pool. I had not played in 20 years, and then ended up living in Mobile,AL for a year, and started again. I won a nice sized 9-ball tournament, and placed in a couple of small 8-ball tournaments. The pool scene is huge, though. Billiards Club on 90, and Runway Billiards in W. Mobile are both top-notch places. Then you have Bumpers on 65/Airport (Never went there) and Breakers near there (Dont go there!) In contrast, Columbia,SC is about the same size and I dont think there is one Pool Hall in the whole town...I had just started getting into playing one-pocket before I moved. (For fun. They play for huge $$$$ down there though)
Getting back to backgammon....I'm gonna try and get to Atl. this spring for sure. When I quit playing bg, I had just overcome the (learning curve?) associated with making that transition from playing online exclusively. I'll never forget my first time playing a 'real' match in Charlotte....I was so nervous, I moved backwards on the first move! I'm sure he doesn't remember me, but all I remember was Paul Weaver walking by and shaking his head because my opponent was freaking out about letting me correct it... (There used to be this stigma about online players, I think) I'm sure I'm not the only one to get flustered at their first real tmt. though.
Anyway, Thanks.
