The Doubling Cube

As a gambling device it may be a great invention, but it doesn't necessarily improve a game.
One of the great attractions of most games is the come-from-behind win, and the cube tends to reduce these.
What if Barcelona had cubed Arsenal last night after 60 minutes? Arsenal would have had to pass, and we'd have missed a fine ending. What if Cincinnati had cubed San Francisco on the SF 8-yard line in Super Bowl XXIII?
But yes, as a tool to maximise the advantage of the better gambler, it's great. However, I believe poker may already have a higher-resolution method of raising the stakes.
