club points -- seeking ideas

ABT system seems to work well for the ABT, and apparently for your club also.
Two things I see a bit different (but maybe not enough to matter) for the ABT vs. the club we're forming. One is that even in the Novice division of the ABT, the players have likely played some competitive BG (e.g. at a local club). We have players who have little or no experience, and we're hoping to attract more of them. Secondly, ABT events are tiered whereas (most)local clubs don't have enough players to be such. Even after a novice gets the hang of moving the checkers (legally), they are still going to get clobbered by the top players.
I know there is resistance to the idea that some low level player who shows up at every single club function might win some annual award for performance. Anything's possible depending upon how you set up the points system. I'm just putting myself in the novice's shoes. I've been there. Going home with some kind of tangible 'award' after a failed night, even if that award doesn't carry much weight (compared to winning), will leave some players with a more positive feeling and more likely to come back. For the grizzled veterans of competitions, those few "attendance" points won't matter. They don't need the extra incentive; they'll likely be back for other reasons.
