Hmmm what is the exact format ?

9 pt matches, clocked. First four rounds are predetermined random draw, but done to avoid repeat pairings. Then Swiss for Rounds 5,6,7. Three losses eliminates you. After 7 rounds, anybody with six wins qualifies for the 8-player playoffs. The remaining 5-2 players have to play off amongst themselves for the remaining playoff spots. The eight playoff qualifiers cash.

In a 64-player fields (such as we have here), you expect on average four automatic qualifiers (six wins) and 10.5 5-2 players to fight for the remaining four spots. Some of the 5-2 qualifiers may have to win two matches to get to the final 8.

I MUCH MUCH MUCH prefer 100% Swiss to having some playoff.

I tend to agree, although the playoff system is probably in place for some time savings.
